Best No-Drill Curtain Rod Brackets

Curtains are the first job in a new rental and the one where the published numbers are furthest apart. On the same shelf in the same store you will find a bracket rated 20 lb and a tension rod rated 2.33 lb, and almost nothing on either package makes the difference obvious. This page ranks five options on what each publishes and on what your window has to have for it to work at all.

Before anything else, go and look at the top corner of your window. If there is wooden trim between half an inch and one inch wide, the bracket options are open to you and they are the strongest thing here. If there is no trim, or it is MDF, PVC, metal or oak, you are in tension-rod territory and the decision moves to what size rod you need and how much it holds.

Weigh the curtain, not the rod

Curtain weight is where people get caught. A sheer panel is genuinely light. A lined blackout panel is several times heavier, and there are usually two of them.
