Best Broom and Mop Holders
Two numbers decide this and only one maker publishes both: how thick a handle the clip grips, and what the thing holding it to the wall is actually rated for.

If the wall is rented, buy the Command Broom and Mop Gripper: at a published 4 lb each it is not the strongest holder here, but it is the only one whose maker publishes the handle diameter it grips (0.8 to 1.0 in), the temperature it bonds at, and how to take it off without pulling the paint. If you want to hang more than two tools, skip adhesive entirely and put a 30 lb rack over the back of a door.
The mop in the photograph at the top of this page is doing what mops do in rentals: leaning against a wall, drying onto the paint, falling over when somebody opens the closet. Fixing that is a five-pound purchase, and the only reason it goes wrong is that two published figures get ignored.
The short answer
How we judged these
1. Does it publish a handle diameter? A gripper is a spring or a silicone ring sized for a range. Outside that range it either will not accept the handle or will not hold it. Two of the five publish the range; three do not.
2. What is the mount rated for, and in which configuration? This is where the category is most slippery. A rack can publish 30 lb and mean 30 lb on screws.
3. Does it publish a removal method? On a rented wall this is the whole question, and only one product on this page answers it.
4. How many tools does it take? A broom, a mop, a dustpan brush and a vacuum attachment is four, and the answer changes depending on whether you are hanging two or six.
The handle figure, which decides whether it works at all
Command publishes a grip window of 0.8 to 1.0 in. reliahom publishes 0.7 to 1.0 in. Those are narrow windows, and household tool handles are not standardized.
A typical steel or aluminum telescopic mop handle is slim -- often under 0.8 in -- which puts it at or below the bottom of the branded window and squarely inside the reliahom one. A traditional wooden broomstick is usually around 0.9 to 1.0 in, near the top of both. A chunky decorative or garden tool handle can exceed 1.0 in and fits neither.
Measure before buying. Wrap a strip of paper around the handle, mark where it overlaps, flatten it against a ruler and divide by 3.14. That is the diameter, and it takes thirty seconds -- the same measure-first discipline the whole of this site runs on.
| Holder | Published load | Handle diameter published | What holds it to the wall |
|---|---|---|---|
| Command Broom and Mop Gripper (17007-3NA) | 4 lb per gripper | 0.8 to 1.0 in | Command adhesive strips, removal method published |
| reliahom grippers (K-MG-3P) | 6 lb each | 0.7 to 1.0 in | Pressure-sensitive adhesive, no removal method published |
| AceMining rail (holder001) | 30 lb screwed, 8 lb on adhesive | Not published | Either, and the maker recommends screws |
| Lorbro over-door rack | 30 lb | Not published | Hooks over the door, 0.07 in thick |
| EARLESS BEAR over-door rack (WG6776) | 30 lb clips, 35 lb stated overall | Not published | Hooks over the door, 0.07 in thick |
The most honest number in this category
AceMining publishes something almost nobody else in the damage-free world will put in print: 30 lb when the rail is screwed to the wall, and 8 lb when it is stuck on with its own adhesive backing.
That single pair of figures is this site's entire thesis, stated by a manufacturer against its own interest. Going no-drill costs you roughly three quarters of the capacity. It is the same ratio we find everywhere: 2 to 5 lb for an adhesive shelf against 44 lb a shelf for a freestanding unit, 7.5 lb for the biggest adhesive hook against a 20 lb no-drill curtain bracket.
It also sets the practical limit. Eight pounds spread across five slots is 1.6 lb a slot if you fill it, and a wet string mop is heavier than that on its own. So the adhesive rail is a two- or three-tool product whatever its slot count says.
The wet mop problem, and the sink rule
Command publishes two conditions that rule out the obvious place to put these: do not hang within one foot of a sink or within splashing distance, and indoor temperature between 50 and 105 F. reliahom publishes a similar window of 50 to 104 F.
In a small rental the broom closet is often beside the sink, and the utility space is often an unheated porch or a garage. Both break the published conditions, and this is the same failure we document in why adhesive fails in bathrooms: the adhesive does not fail dramatically, it creeps, and the thing it was holding is on the floor three weeks later.
A wet mop head makes it worse by hanging damp against a wall for hours. If the mop is going up wet, the over-door rack is the better product, because nothing in its load path depends on a bond.
The over-door answer, which is usually the right one
A broom closet, a utility room and a kitchen almost always have a door, and the back of that door is the only surface in a rental that is both vertical and completely unregulated.
The two racks here publish 30 lb and hang on hooks published at 0.07 in thick and 1.9 in wide -- thin enough, both listings say, to let the door close. That is nearly four times the adhesive figure, with nothing bonded to anything and nothing to remove at move-out.
The costs are real and worth stating. A 17 in wide rack loaded with tools swings every time the door moves, so it wants a door that opens into space rather than against a wall. And neither listing publishes a door thickness range, which is the gap in this category -- over-door hooks and racks elsewhere in this hub routinely publish 1.25 to 2.25 in, as our over-the-door weight limits table shows. Here you get a hook thickness and the phrase "fits most doors".
What we would skip
Any adhesive gripper on a textured, rendered or unpainted wall. Not a capacity problem, a bonding one, and no gripper on this page will survive it.
Filling an adhesive rail to its slot count. Five slots at a published 8 lb total is 1.6 lb each. The slots are a shape, not a capacity.
The screw option on a rail you bought for a rental. It is the maker's own recommendation and it is right about the physics, but it is four holes in somebody else's wall. If you are going to drill, that is a decision to make deliberately -- see can you drill in a rental.
Any holder at all for a handle you have not measured. The two published grip windows are 0.3 in wide. That is not much room to be wrong in.
The rest of the closet
A broom holder is usually one job in a larger one. The cleaning things that are not brooms go under the sink, where plumbing decides the clearance and expandable racks work around it. If the door you were going to use is already carrying something, over-the-door organizers ranks what else a door will take, on published per-hook loads.
The picks in full
Every figure below is published by the manufacturer or the retailer listing named beside it. Where a figure is not published, the row says so rather than carrying an estimate.

#1 · Best for a rented wall: published 4 lb, 0.8-1.0 in handles, stated removal
Command Broom and Mop Gripper, 3-Pack (17007-3NA)
Command · Best for a rental wall where the deposit matters more than the capacity
9.0
out of 10
The only broom holder on this page from a manufacturer who publishes the handle diameter it grips, the temperature range it bonds in and how it comes off.
| Specification | Published figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Published load | 4 lb per gripper | Command 17007-3NA product listing |
| Handle diameter published | 0.8 to 1.0 in -- the fit figure, and the one nobody measures before buying | Command 17007-3NA product listing |
| Contents | 3 grippers and 6 adhesive strips | Command 17007-3NA product listing |
| Conditions published | Indoor temperature stated as 50 to 105 F; wait 7 days after painting; do not hang within 1 foot of a sink or within splashing distance | Command 17007-3NA product listing |
| Moisture | Water-resistant backing stated, described as suitable for indoor or outdoor use | Command 17007-3NA product listing |
What the specification gets you
- Publishes the handle diameter range, which is the figure that decides whether it grips at all
- A stated removal method, which no other holder on this page has
- Three separate grippers, so a broom, a mop and a dustpan brush each get their own
What it does not cover
- 4 lb each is the lowest published load on the page by a factor of seven
- The sink rule rules out the obvious spot in most small kitchens
- Needs a smooth, cured, clean surface, which a rented utility wall often is not
Coming off the wall
Hold the top of the strip and pull slowly straight down toward the floor. Rehang with Command refill strips -- the gripper itself is reusable.

#2 · Best capacity with no adhesive: 30 lb over a door
Lorbro Over-the-Door Broom and Mop Holder
Lorbro · Best for a rented utility or kitchen wall you are not willing to touch
8.7
out of 10
Takes the wall out of the question entirely: 30 lb over the back of a door, on hooks published at 0.07 in so the door still shuts.
| Specification | Published figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Published load | Stated to secure cleaning tools up to 30 pounds | Lorbro over-door holder product listing |
| Hook thickness published | 1.9 in wide and 0.07 in thick, which the listing compares to a penny | Lorbro over-door holder product listing |
| Size | 17 in long by 11 in high, with 4 gripper slots and 4 hooks | Lorbro over-door holder product listing |
| Door protection | 4 non-scratch pads stated, described as eliminating the rattle against the door | Lorbro over-door holder product listing |
| Grip mechanism | Spring-loaded double rubber-gripped slots, stated to work one-handed and to hold a wet mop | Lorbro over-door holder product listing |
What the specification gets you
- 30 lb published with no adhesive anywhere in the load path
- Publishes the hook thickness, which decides whether the door closes
- Eight hanging points on a door that was doing nothing
What it does not cover
- No door thickness range published, only that the thin hooks fit most doors
- 17 in wide on a door means the door swings a loaded rack every time it moves
- Handle diameter is not published, so the slot fit is a guess
Coming off the wall
Lift it off the door. Nothing bonded, nothing drilled, nothing to repair at move-out.
Skip this if
Skip this if the only candidate door is the one into a small bathroom or a cupboard that opens against a wall -- a loaded 11 in deep rack needs swing clearance.

#3 · Best for a thin handle: 6 lb each, grips from 0.7 in
reliahom Self-Adhesive Broom Grippers, 3-Pack (K-MG-3P)
reliahom · Best for a handle too thin for the 0.8 in branded window
7.8
out of 10
Half again the published load of the branded gripper and a wider published grip window, from a maker with no spec sheet to back either figure.
| Specification | Published figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Published load | 6 lb each | reliahom K-MG-3P product listing |
| Handle diameter published | 0.7 to 1.0 in -- a tenth of an inch wider at the thin end than the branded gripper | reliahom K-MG-3P product listing |
| Arm thickness published | 0.13 in load-bearing arms | reliahom K-MG-3P product listing |
| Conditions published | Stated for indoor use between 50 and 104 F | reliahom K-MG-3P product listing |
| Grip | A thickened silicone ring in the middle, which the listing says must be pulled out before the handle is pushed in | reliahom K-MG-3P product listing |
What the specification gets you
- 6 lb published is half again the branded figure
- 0.7 in at the thin end catches handles the branded gripper misses
- Three in the pack at a lower price than the branded three
What it does not cover
- No published removal method, which on a rented wall is the figure that matters most
- No named manufacturer behind the load claim
- The silicone ring has to be set up correctly or the grip is not what is advertised
Coming off the wall
No removal method published. Synthetic pressure-sensitive adhesive, described only as super adhesion.
Skip this if
Skip this if the wall is one you have to hand back. Nothing in this listing says how the adhesive comes off, and that is the question this whole site exists to ask.

#4 · Best for sprays too: over-door rack with a basket
EARLESS BEAR Over-the-Door Broom and Mop Holder with Basket (WG6776)
EARLESS BEAR · Best for cleaning tools and the sprays that go with them, in one place
8.3
out of 10
The same over-door idea with a basket added for the bottles, and the only listing here that publishes two different totals for itself.
| Specification | Published figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Published load | Stated twice and differently: 30 lb for the clips in one bullet, and 35 lb of items overall in another | EARLESS BEAR WG6776 product listing |
| Hook thickness published | 1.9 in wide and 0.07 in thick, the same figures as the other over-door rack here | EARLESS BEAR WG6776 product listing |
| Size | 17 in long by 13 in high, with 4 gripper slots, 3 hooks and 1 basket | EARLESS BEAR WG6776 product listing |
| Door protection | 10 anti-scratch pads stated, described as eliminating noise against the door | EARLESS BEAR WG6776 product listing |
| Construction | Metal, with double hooks and rubber roller clips | EARLESS BEAR WG6776 product listing |
What the specification gets you
- The basket takes the spray bottles that otherwise live on the floor
- Metal rather than the wood-faced version, so a wet mop is less of a problem
- Publishes the hook thickness
What it does not cover
- Two different load figures in the same listing, which is a reason to use the lower one
- 13 in deep is the biggest swing of any product here
- No published door thickness range
Coming off the wall
Lift it off the door.
Skip this if
Skip this if the door is in a tight corridor. At 13 in deep and loaded, it is the product most likely to hit something when the door opens.

#5 · Best single rail: nine hanging points, 8 lb on adhesive
AceMining Broom Holder Wall Mount, 5 Racks and 4 Hooks (holder001)
AceMining · Best for a whole cleaning cupboard on one strip, if 8 lb is enough
8.2
out of 10
The most useful listing in this category, because it publishes the price of going no-drill: 30 lb screwed to the wall, 8 lb on its own adhesive.
| Specification | Published figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Published load, adhesive | 8 lb when secured with the self-adhesive backing | AceMining holder001 product listing |
| Published load, screwed | 30 lb when secured with screws -- nearly four times the adhesive figure, from the same maker on the same page | AceMining holder001 product listing |
| Capacity | 5 gripper slots and 4 hooks on one 17 in rail | AceMining holder001 product listing |
| Material | 304 stainless steel with anti-skid silicone and double rubber-gripped slots | AceMining holder001 product listing |
| Maker's own recommendation | States that screw mounting is recommended for weighty or outdoor hanging, and adhesive for smooth surfaces | AceMining holder001 product listing |
What the specification gets you
- Publishes both loads, which is the single most honest number in this category
- Nine hanging points on one rail, where the grippers give you one each
- Stainless steel rather than plastic
What it does not cover
- The adhesive figure of 8 lb across five slots is 1.6 lb a slot if you fill it
- No published removal method
- The maker's own advice is to use screws, which a renter cannot take
Coming off the wall
No removal method published for the adhesive route. The screw route leaves holes, which is the thing a rental cannot have.
Skip this if
Skip this if you plan to fill all five slots. Adhesive-mounted it publishes 8 lb total, and five tools weigh more than that.

Questions people actually ask
How much weight does a broom holder actually hold?
Adhesive grippers publish 4 lb each (Command) and 6 lb each (reliahom), which is one tool per gripper. Over-door racks publish 30 lb with no adhesive in the load path. The figure to watch is on the adhesive rails that advertise a high number: AceMining publishes 30 lb screwed to the wall but only 8 lb mounted with its own adhesive, and that 8 lb is the figure a renter gets.
What handle diameter do broom grippers fit?
Command publishes 0.8 to 1.0 in and reliahom publishes 0.7 to 1.0 in. Those windows are narrower than people expect. A slim aluminum telescopic mop handle is often under 0.8 in and a chunky wooden or garden handle can be over 1.0 in. Measure yours by wrapping a strip of paper around it, marking the overlap, and dividing the length by 3.14.
Will adhesive broom holders damage rental walls?
The Command grippers publish a removal method -- hold the top of the strip and pull slowly straight down toward the floor -- and are designed to come off cleanly from the surfaces they list. The unbranded grippers publish no removal method at all, which on a wall you have to hand back is the figure that matters most. The usual damage is not the adhesive but the surface: adhesive pulls paint that was not fully cured when it went on.
Can I hang a wet mop on an adhesive holder?
It is the use case adhesive is worst at. Command publishes two conditions that rule it out in most small kitchens: do not hang within one foot of a sink or within splashing distance, and keep the indoor temperature between 50 and 105 F. A damp mop head against a wall for hours does the same slow work that kills adhesive in bathrooms. If the mop goes up wet, use an over-door rack where nothing in the load path is a bond.
What is the best way to store brooms and mops in a rental?
Over the back of a door, if you have one to spare. The racks we checked publish 30 lb against 4 to 8 lb for anything adhesive, they hang on hooks published at 0.07 in so the door still closes, and they leave nothing behind at all. Adhesive grippers are the better answer only when there is no usable door, or when you are hanging one or two light tools on a smooth painted wall.
Do over-the-door broom racks fit any door?
Neither listing publishes a door thickness range, which is this category's weak spot -- over-door hooks and racks elsewhere on this site routinely publish 1.25 to 2.25 in. What both do publish is hook thickness: 0.07 in, which they compare to a penny, and 1.9 in wide. Practically that fits standard interior doors, but check that the door opens into clear space, because a loaded 13 in deep rack needs swing room.
How many tools can one holder take?
One per gripper, so a 3-pack of grippers is three tools, and they can be spaced to suit the handles rather than fixed at one pitch. The rails and over-door racks advertise four or five slots plus hooks, but on adhesive the published total load is the limit rather than the slot count: 8 lb across five slots is 1.6 lb each. Over a door, 30 lb across four slots and four hooks is a genuine closet's worth.
